World Conservation Congress in Barcelona

From 5 to 14 October, Barcelona (Spain) will host the World Conservation Congress, the largest international event on nature conservation. Held every four years, the Congress aims to improve how we manage our natural environment for human, social and economic development.
Countdown 2010 will be present with several side events:
- Welcome Ceremony – Sailing to Barcelona 4th October at 20:30, Maritime Museum
- Communicating biodiversity: what works, what doesn’t 7th October at 09:30–11:00, room 121
- Local 2010 Action for Biodiversity: The ignored solution? 7th October at 16:30–18:00, auditorium —-> followed by a press conference at 18:30, Media centre
- Meeting the 2010 biodiversity target! A contribution to poverty alleviation and to the benefit of life on Earth 8th October at 09:30–11:00, room plenary B —-> followed by a press conference at 14:00, Media Centre
- A vision for Nature in 2010 – and beyond 9th October at 14:30–16:00, room 116
In addition, on 9th October at the Natural History Museum of Barcelona, Countdown 2010 will hold a workshop on “Lost friends, hidden treasures“, an outdoor photographic exhibition featuring 100 photographs of animals that could once be found in Europe, but are now extinct. The event will also see the launch of “2010 Events Calendar“ – a database containing all events dedicated to biodiversity taking place in 2010.
The Countdown 2010 Secretariat has also developed a guide for the WCC events related to biodiversity and the 2010 target.
