Countdown 2010 on Biodiversity Day 2007

The international day of biodiversity on May 22 is one of the crucial recurring dates for Countdown 2010. On this day, Countdown 2010 partners all over Europe take the opportunity to celebrate biodiversity, and to celebrate their action to halt the loss of biodiversity by 2010.

As the theme of international biodiversity day 2007 is climate change, we will encourage partners to build their biodiversity day activities around that message.

Why should you take action on May 22?

The international day of biodiversity is a unique opportunity to raise your cause within a larger framework. All over the world, organizations will take action to promote biodiversity. On this day, Countdown 2010 partners will specifically target the media and the general public.

What can you do?

Take the opportunity to inform the media about Countdown 2010 and your activities within the network. We have already prepared a draft newsrelease for you. All you need to do is to translate the text into your local language, add a quote from your organization and send it to your media distribution list on May 21. Don’t forget to send a copy to wiebke (dot) herding (at) countdown2010 (dot) net!

If you have the capacity, you can also organize additional events around biodiversity day. A couple of ideas:

  • Organise a guided tour through nature
  • Install energy efficient light bulbs in the town hall
  • Quiz: Who recognises most species
