Endangered succulent plants on display
16 September 2009, Bologna (Italy). On the occasion of the Cactus Festival on 25-27 September, ABC (Italian Association for Biodiversity and Conservation) will open a special exhibition of rare and threatened succulent plants. “Il Giardino Ritrovato” (the revealed garden) includes plants which are included in the Appendix 1 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
The exhibition – funded by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture – will be displayed in several cities in Italy. It aims to showcase the efforts of those nurseries which act in compliance with CITES; the increase of these nurseries helps reduce the number of plants collected in the wild. Hundreds of living plants will be shown in glass boxes. Information material on the problems related to illegal plant harvesting will be available for free for the public.
A dedicated web site on the exhibition will be published shortly. Some additional information is available at the following link.
