German Green Party commited to save biodiversity
The German Green Party (Die Gruenen in German), invited the popolation to play domino in front of the Parliament building in Berlin in an effort to attract public and media attention for biodiversity conservation.
The 1.5 meters domino boards represent the species in IUCN’s red list. Reinhard Buetikhofer, Chairman of the Party, demonstated how the game works: if one of the species falls, then all the other ones are affected.
Die Gruenen is the first political party to join Countdown 2010.
Biodiversity will be one of the main items on the agenda of the “Klimaaktionstage” (21-30 April 2008) that will be arranged at federal level. Numerous members of the county chapters and the regional associations will execute the activities which point at the connection of climate protection and the conservation of biodiversity. Moreover, Die Gruenen passed numerous party-resolutions concerning biodiversity in recent time, such as the Resolution of the party-board “Vielfalt leben, Vielfalt erhalten. Der Schutz der biologischen Vielfalt ist Gruen”, the Resolution of the federal states “Vielfalt leben, Vielfalt erhalten: Zur Sicherung unserer natuerlichen Lebensgrundlagen” and the Resolution of the party congress of the European Green Party “Biodiversity for Life” in Ljubljana, presented and introduced by the party-board of Buendnis 90/Die Gruenen.
