Happy World Environment Day!
5 June 2009. Humanity cannot afford to keep living the way it does today. The pressure on natural resources has become unsustainable. Bold measures have to be taken to conserve the environment and its biodiversity. Today is a great opportunity to remind everybody of the need to protect our planet.
“We’re running out of time to reverse a series of dangerous trends,” says Julia Marton-Lefèvre, IUCN Director General. “For too long, we’ve been taking much more than the earth can produce and we must recognize that the natural environment, upon which we depend, is suffering as a result. We need to increase our investments in nature now.”
Countdown 2010 invites you all to follow the launch of the movie “Home” by Yann Arthus-Bertrand today on Youtube at www.youtube.com/homeproject. Through stunning aerial images and videos shot around the world, Yann Arthus-Bertrand tries to raise awareness of the need to act and start rebuilding what humanity has destroyed over the last 200,000 years: “Humanity has barely ten years to reverse the trend, become aware of the full extent of its spoliation of the Earth’s riches and change its patterns of consumption” reads the website.
Biodiversity “and the environment as a whole“ needs your contribution. Let’s continue taking action for biodiversity together until 2010 and beyond!Picture by millzero.com@Flickr
