Japan to host Biodiversity Conference in 2010
27 January 2007, Tokyo, Japan. The government of Japan had just offered to host the CBD-conference on biological diversity in Nagoya in 2010 as more than two hundred experts gathered to discuss ways to link Japans National Biodiversity Strategy to the rest of the world. Jeff McNeely, IUCN’s Chief Scientist, stressed the need to link biodiversity policy to economy and resource management and to engage consumers and the private sector. IUCN’s National Committee is now considering options to use Countdown 2010 as the foundation of their biodiversity activities up to 2010.
