Lights out to fight climate change – Earth Hour
25 March 2010. Since the first event in Sydney in 2007, hundreds of millions of people have joined the world’s largest call to act against climate change by switching off all lights for one hour.
Earth Hour is a global WWF climate change initiative. Individuals, businesses, governments and communities are invited to turn off their lights for one hour on Saturday 27 March 2010 at 8:30 PM to show their support for action on climate change.
IUCN coordinates closely with all WWF offices around the world on this important event, and encourages all IUCN Members, Commissions and partners as well as individuals, private companies and municipalities to join the movement and switch off.
“IUCN calls for people around the world to show that they are concerned and ready for action on global warming,” says IUCN Director General Julia Marton-Lefèvre. “Much more than just saving energy for one hour, Earth Hour gives each of us a voice in the fight against climate change.”
