Living Diversity
At the end of January, the Austrian Minister for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management, Niki Berlakovich, launched a national campaign on biodiversity called Vielfaltleben (Living Diversity).
The campaign Living Diversity is a joint initiative of the Austrian Ministry, Naturschutzbund, WWF and BirdLife. Within this campaign, a local biodiversity network involving Austrian local governments will be set up. Local governments will be encouraged to develop their own biodiversity programmes and commit themselves to Countdown 2010. The Ministry hopes that many local governments will join the initiative and become partners in the efforts to achieve the 2010 target.
Also, the programme includes a high-level Living Diversity Alliance and an Ambassadors programme: influential individuals dedicated to biodiversity will help spread the message in Austria.
