Take part in biodiversity recording!

6 August 2010, Luxembourg. In the framework of the International Year of Biodiversity, the National Museum of Natural History of Luxembourg launched a biodiversity recording online tool aimed to the general public. You can see the tool here:http://data.mnhn.lu/maach_mat.

The project aims to sensitize the general public on the surrounding nature, and to collect data about animals and plants which are easy to detect and determine. The online tool will also help to gather information about common species, which often are not considered by scientific monitoring programmes.

Citizens are invited to contribute to the recording of data on the following topics:
  • Recording Luxembourg’s vertebrates
  • What’s flowering where?
  • Insects
The online tool allows choosing a topic and enter the observations after the identification. The data collected so far on the different species can already be visualized on the maps.

The project was launched with a support of the Environmental Department of the Ministry for Sustainable Development and Infrastructures, a Countdown 2010 partner.
