Vojvodina officially supports Countdown 2010

After having adopted the Countdown 2010 Declaration at the Assembly Session, the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina officially joined the initiative during the signing ceremony represented by the President of the Assembly Mr. Bojan Kostres.
This event was organized jointly by the Assembly, IUCN SEE and the Green Network of Vojvodina – the newest IUCN member in the region. A high number of journalists from TV, radio and print witnessed the Ceremony and the event was promoted in main national media.
By signing the Declaration, the Assembly commits to
increase afforestation of the region while taking into consideration biodiversity requirements; improve protection of biodiversity in protected areas; promote good agricultural practices and organic production; protect valuable areas from negative impacts of industrial activities; support education and awareness raising on biodiversity of local communities, civil society and protected areas managers.
After the first local community of Botos, the Assembly of AP of Vojvodina is the first regional authority of this size joining Countdown 2010 in Serbia. The Province sets a good example for other regional and local authorities in the country and in the region. The high level representatives of the Province expressed their readiness to promote Countdown 2010 initiative at the national level.
