Wilderness species and management by PAN Parks
15 April 2010. The PAN Parks Foundation, the Protected Area Network of Parks by WWF, has recently released two new publications on wilderness.
As nature intended
Best practice examples of wilderness management are the focus of the ”As nature intended” publication by the PAN Parks Foundation. The 11 best practice examples of various European national parks describe different aspects of wilderness management in various habitat types.
Last of the wild
By providing a description of the management and monitoring practices of various protected areas with regards to chamois, ibex, brown bears, lynx, wolves and white-tailed eagles in this publication, the PAN Parks Foundation argues for the need for a non-intervention management approach that will ensure healthy and stable populations of these – and other – important wilderness species. In addition, they hope that the present selection of monitoring experiences will serve as an inspiration to many nature conservation professionals in their handling of wilderness habitats and species around Europe.
