Youth guidebook on sustainability by AEGEE
30 July 2010. The European Students’ Forum AEGEE – the first youth organisation to join Countdown 2010 – recently published the “Youth’s Eye on Sustainability” guidebook which sums up the main outcomes of the organization’s flagship project “Sustaining our Future”.
The booklet gives an overview of the activities organised in the frame of the project and their results, and gives extra information on different aspects of sustainability and the role young people can play in it. The activities concern: ecotourism, sustainable universities, organising green events, waste management, and more. The booklet is free for downloading at www.aegee.org/sustaining.
The project “Sustaining our Future” aimed to improve knowledge and increase the involvement of European youth in sustainable development. Several local and European level events were organized by AEGEE members tackling different aspects of sustainability – from renewable energy to city planning.
With the aim to draw attention within the organization to resource scarcity and biodiversity loss, in spring 2008, AEGEE signed the Countdown 2010 Declaration committing to raise awareness of biodiversity among the youth and take local action all over Europe. To celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity, AEGEE’s Environmental Working Group is paying special attention to the topic this year and has organized several activities.
AEGEE is the biggest interdisciplinary European students’ network, being represented in more than 230 cities and 42 countries all over Europe. AEGEE holds its main values in the fields of higher education, cultural exchange, active citizenship, peace and stability.
