Countdown 2010
Tasty food and essential medicine, fresh air and clean water, protection from natural disasters and the pleasure of walking through a forest in spring time: Without biodiversity, our lives would look a lot more bleak and barren.
But at the same time as we are taking advantage of this natural wealth, we are wasting our assets: Recent studies showed that two thirds of ecosystem services worldwide are in decline and species become extinct at up to 1.000 times the normal rate. It is more important than ever that we reverse this trend.
Over the last few years a number of international agreements have promised to save biodiversity by 2010.
